No Thomas Whiteside appears among the published lists of graduates of any university in the British Isles. This is evidently a mistake for John Whiteside (i.e. Tho. for Jho), who was giving such lectures in the early 18th century (see R.T. Gunther, Early science in Oxford, Vol. I). On fo. 1: 'Jno.
